Amberly McAteer
Writer and Editor
I’m happiest making a good story great. For more than a decade at The Globe and Mail, I wore many hats – homepage editor, lifestyle columnist, travel essayist and longtime assignment editor for the Opinion Section (OpEds).
In all of those roles, I became that section’s unofficial grammar police and became known for polishing any piece of writing to make it shine.
Whether the assignment is a 10,000-word geopolitical essay or a breaking news OpEd, I’m always asking myself: Why should our reader read this? How can we better grab and engage their attention? What headline best sums up the thrust of the story and why should the reader give us their most precious commodity – time? I know what works and what doesn’t.
At Conquest Communications Canada, I apply that expertise to helping our clients focus on their overall approach to their audience, making it even more relevant to those readers, and increasing engagement for our clients.
